Ambassadors of Peace and Spirituality

Once someone asked Maulana Wahiduddin Khan, “After you, who? There is only the ‘one’ Wahiduddin.” He replied, “Only one person is required to develop the ideology. Once this task has been completed, the message will continue to be spread through a dedicated team of individuals with the use of various modern means of communication available in this age.”

A reference to the coming of the age of modern communication is mentioned in the Quran in the following verse:

“He Who taught (the use of) the Pen. Taught man that which he knew not” (96: 4-5)

This verse is a prediction of the coming of the modern age of communication that will bring tremendous changes in the way we reach out to people in the world. A ‘pen’ symbolizes the instrument of writing a book – or communicating. This verse, therefore, refers to the coming of the modern age of communication, in the future, in which instruments would be invented that would make communication simple and swift – the printing press and the instruments of modern means of communication – telephones, mobiles, computers, the Internet, television, radio, satellite, etc. This prediction has come true and today the age of modern means of communication is upon us.

Coming of the Modern Age of Communication
Prior to the age of modern communication, intellectual activity was dependant on the efforts of single individuals. But, today in the age of modern communication, due to major technological advancements, once an individual develops the ideology and the material based on the same is preserved; it can be can be spread worldwide, through a dedicated team of individuals. This can be done either through the written word in the form of books, booklets, leaflets, journals, newspapers, magazines, the Internet, etc; or the spoken word through radio, television; the Internet, DVDs, VCDs, audio cassettes, audio CDs, etc. This is the method adopted by the peace mission of Maulana Wahiduddin Khan.

Maulana Prepared the Ideology
Maulana Wahiduddin Khan has spent his entire life in rediscovering Islam from its original sources. After passing out from the seminary, he immersed himself in learning English and then went on to study innumerable books on science and contemporary thought. As a result of his quest, he became well versed in both classical Islamic learning and modern science. During the course of his research, he came to the conclusion that the need of the hour is to present Islamic teachings in the language of the post-scientific era based on peace and spirituality. Accordingly, he targeted the educated class (Mala-e-Qaum) of the post scientific era to address his mission to. He focused on preparing literature and audio-visual material to address their minds. To present the ideology of Islam to the people of the post-scientific era in the modern idiom, he has authored over 200 books and innumerable small leaflets, booklets in English and Urdu; and recorded innumerable lectures in the audio-visual format in English Urdu to address their minds.

Maulana Prepared Ambassadors of Peace and Spirituality
While he was preparing the material, he simultaneously commenced activities to share his newfound wisdom with others by spreading his material to and by interacting with educated individuals. The aim of the interactions was to share spiritual wisdom and give them the message of truth peacefully so as to prepare individuals – Ambassadors of Peace and Spirituality – who will take the message of peace and spirituality to the world.

Through CPS International and its global partners – spanning over decades –, Maulana has re-engineered the minds of thousands of individuals by training them in the art of thinking and deconditioning of their mind. According to the Maulana, restlessness starts in the mind. This occurs when people become conditioned to living lives, which are self-oriented instead of God-oriented. As a result of this unrest, they either live in a state of insecurity or isolate themselves from society, or in other ways become negative in their reactions. The extreme expression of such negative reactions is when people go to the extent of taking the law into their own hands, which results in chaos, violence and eventually global terrorism.

Maulana makes people understand that a peaceful society is necessary for any major progress to take place. He further explains that to have a peaceful society, you have to begin by constructing a positive and spiritual personality in the individual. The formula that Maulana teaches to bring in the revolution in one’s personality is very simple:

“Change yourself by living a God-oriented life and you will be able to change the whole world."

Maulana explains that, in this world, it is impossible to change others; but one can change oneself. Once we stop complaining and protesting about other people or our situation, we are able to analyze the situation objectively and make positive changes in ourselves. This is the beginning of the development of our personalities on positive and spiritual lines – of bringing a spiritual revolution in our personalities. This is what makes positive and peaceful people in society. Then, when such individuals are created in large numbers, they may be regarded, collectively, as a peaceful society.

Through CPS International and its global partners, he has, thus, addressed restless minds, seeking truth and yearning to know the purpose of life to re-engineer them so as to develop positive and intellectually developed personalities in them. According to Maulana, this team of individuals, trained as they are in the principles of peace and spirituality, will play the role of Ambassadors of Peace and Spirituality to the world.
