The way to be safe from thorns is to avoid becoming entangled with them.
When you come to a thorny patch walk carefully around it— not through it.

CPS Spirituality Efforts

At CPS, we believe that spirituality is, indeed, a representation of truth - truth is spirituality and spirituality is truth. According to us, there are two major schools of spirituality - one based on meditation and the other on contemplation. At CPS, we subscribe to the school of contemplation rather than of meditation. We believe that whenever man raises himself above worldly matters and devotes his life to becoming one with the non-material world – through meditation –, he experiences a kind of unknown pleasure – what is called ecstasy. Due to such a feeling, people wrongly associate ecstasy with spirituality. However ecstasy is nothing but a reduced form of spirituality; therefore, we believe that a seeker of truth cannot find spirituality through meditation.

Man is an intellectual being, with the mind being his greatest faculty. We, therefore, believe that real spirituality has to be one, which can address his mind. This is contemplative spirituality. Spirituality attained at any lesser level than that of his mind cannot be true spirituality – it can only be a reduced form of spirituality. At CPS, we, therefore, subscribe to the school of contemplative spirituality.

This is the ideology of spirituality developed by Maulana Wahiduddin Khan, based on contemplation or tafakkur or tadabbur as mentioned in the Quran. CPS Spirituality Efforts aim at spreading this ideology of spirituality.  During the CPS Spirituality Efforts, Maulana Wahiduddin Khan and the Ambassadors of Peace and Spirituality make people realize the importance of contemplative spirituality by explaining to them that man's spiritual journey is entirely intellectual in nature. Its quest has two aims: one is to solve the riddle of why all men and women undergo negative experiences in this world; and the other concerns the finding of positive solutions. It addresses the paradox of human beings having been given the freedom to make moral choices, and their frequent misuse of this liberty - a course of action which causes them to repeatedly face situations in which people do each other harm; losses are incurred because of others' injustice; severe provocations are suffered because of untoward experiences. All these give rise to evils such as malice, lust, anger, arrogance, greed, etc.

But when man raises himself above his immediate situation, i.e., from the material to a higher level of thinking, he is able, at this elevated thought level, to eradicate his negative emotions and attitudes and replace them with positive ones: patience when confronted with provocation, love when confronted with hate, etc. The afflicted person then becomes one who loves rather than hates. His adherence to his code of ethics then becomes unconditional: he is never affected in his moral judgments or actions by the misdeeds of others.

Through the CPS Spirituality Efforts, the centre is, therefore, sharing spiritual wisdom of the Islamic Scriptures to help seekers find rational answers to their questions pertaining to the ideology of life and to train them in the spiritual principles – the universal principles of life.

Discovering Purpose in Life

At CPS, we believe that true spirituality – contemplative spirituality – is received by a person when he contemplates or reflects and gives serious thought to questions pertaining to the ideology of life, such as, Who am I?, What is the purpose of my life?, Is my life governed by destiny or free will?, Why do I have so many desires?, Where will I go when I transcend from this world?, etc. Through contemplation, when a seeker finds rational answers to his questions, he receives spirituality at the mind or thinking level – this is contemplative spirituality.

At CPS, we believe that the questions may be many – but the answer is only one – a reason-based understanding of the creation plan of God. The centre is, therefore, helping seekers to rationally discover their purpose of life by finding answers to questions pertaining to the Ideology of Life by making people discover the One Universal God based on the Ideology of Monotheism and understand the Creation Plan of God. The Creation Plan of God, simply put, is that the Creator of man has created him as an eternal creature and has divided his life into two stages - the pre-death period or the life in the present world and the post death period or the eternal life after death. His limited life in the pre-death world is designed as a ‘testing’ ground, while his life in the eternal post-death world is designed to be a world of ‘reward’ or ‘punishment’. In the present world of trial, any man or woman, to be eligible for reward in the eternal world of the hereafter, needs to have two qualifications: one is to acknowledge truth of the one Creator and the other is to lead a principled life, as per the guidelines laid down by Him.

Living a God-Oriented Life

During the spirituality efforts we make people realize that once a seeker discovers his Creator – based on the principle of Monotheism – and understands the creation plan of God, his life enters a new phase - that of the building of a positive personality as per the Creator's spiritual principles. This is a God-oriented Life.

We make people realize that all sorts of success – be it the achievement of peace, positivity, spirituality, success in this life and salvation – depends upon living a God-Oriented life – with God being the ‘giver’ and man only a ‘recipient’. The essence of the issue is that just as all other creatures of the world are compelled by their nature to live a God-oriented life; man, of his own free will, should discover his Creator – the Universal God – and after making contact with Him, surrender to Him and build his life based on his Creator’s universal principles of life - the spiritual principles

CPS International and its global partners are undertaking the spirituality efforts using every possible peaceful method such as personal interactions, lectures publication of print and online material; production of dvds, audio cds, etc.; broadcast of programs on television and radio, etc. The aim of the CPS Spirituality efforts, therefore, is to help seekers find their purpose of life by rationally understanding the ideology of life and to re-engineer their minds to unleash their spiritual potential and live a God-oriented life.
