CPS International - Center for Peace and Spirituality is a non-profit, non-political organization that promotes the culture of peace through mind-based spirituality and undertakes inter-faith dialogue to reveal the true face of Islam and promotes the culture of peace through mind-based spirituality.

The centre was set up in January 2001 by Maulana Wahiduddin Khan, an Islamic Scholar who has adopted peace, spirituality and inter-faith as the mission of his life. According to him, peace and spirituality are both, in fact, two aspects of the one truth. Positive thinking at an individual level is called spirituality; when this positive thinking reaches a collective level in society, it results in what is known as peace. The question is how does the message of peace and spirituality spread. There are two ways of addressing individuals: at the collective level and at the individual level. While most people prefer to address people at a collective level in crowds, Maulana Wahiduddin Khan has – to the point of sacrifice – chosen to address people at the individual level. According to him, addressing a crowd does not render any long-term result, as the individual’s mind never gets addressed in a crowd and therefore individuals – the building blocks of society – never change.

Maulana Wahiduddin Khan has been addressing individuals with the objective of re-engineering their minds to bring a spiritual revolution in them and converting them into positive and peace loving spiritual people. Through his efforts – spreading over decades – Maulana has created a team of individuals with re-engineered minds, using the simple formula: “Change yourself – by living a God-oriented life – and you will be able to change the whole world”. According to him, it is this team of individuals, trained as they are in the ideologies and principles of peace and spirituality, who will play the role of Ambassadors of Peace and Spirituality to the world. These ambassadors, comprising of the thousands of members of CPS International and its global partners, are uniting peace-loving people by giving them a practical message of peace through mind-based spirituality.

The mission of CPS International is "to share spiritual wisdom and convey the message of Truth to mankind peacefully." Such a mission is the basic need of the 21st century man who, although having reached the pinnacle of his technological advancement and with all his positive achievements, is still confronted with negative influences such as stress, materialism, inequality, work and social pressures. As a result, more and more people are succumbing to negative emotions such as retaliation, intolerance and hatred. The result of such negative emotions is aggression at an individual level and violence, disharmony and eventually terrorism at the collective level.

Establishing peace at a an individual and global level therefore has become the # 1 priority, as it is the only way to achieve everything positive and therefore a crucial factor for human survival. People all over the world are making appeals in support of peace or bombing terrorist hideouts to establish peace. But peace has not been established. We believe that the truth is that the terrorism of the present age is different from that of the former times. It is not a matter of who has the more sophisticated, and lethal technology; it is more a matter of technology versus ideology, for terrorism has a complete ideology of violence - although false and of its own making - to support it. Terrorism will persist in one form or another until the ideology of violence is replaced with an ideology of peace. Understanding that a peaceful society is necessary for all major developments, Maulana has developed a full-fledged Ideology of Peace, derived directly from the Islamic Scriptures, which is a culture in itself with clear principles - to counter the ideology of violence. CPS International and its global partners are spreading this ideology worldwide so that the violence may be replaced with a culture of peace through CPS Peace Efforts.

To make people understand that Islam is a religion of peace, we organize CPS Inter-Faith Efforts to reveal the true face of Islam by explaining that Islam is a religion of peace and spirituality and not of violence. Through its inter-faith efforts, the centre and its global partners are helping people rediscover Islam by clearing its misconceptions and explaining to people that the reason for such misconceptions is that information about Islam is being derived not from its original sources of Islam – the Quran, the word of God, and the Sunnah, the sayings and deeds of Prophet Muhammad; but from the later day interpretations and commentaries of these sources and the practices of the present day Muslims in different parts of the world.

CPS and its global partners are making people understand that the right way to see the true face of Islam is by using the scientific approach and, distinguishing between Islam – as derived from its original sources – and the deeds of later Muslims — both in theory and practice. When people do this, they see the true face of Islam and realize that Islam is actually a religion of peace and spirituality and aims at producing a peaceful society by making positive individuals.

The question that comes to mind is how does one start the process of building a positive and peaceful society. At CPS, we believe that there is only way to do this and that is through spirituality. Although there are two major schools of spiritual discipline: one based on meditation and the other on contemplation; at CPS, we subscribe to the school of contemplation. We believe that as it is man’s mind that differentiates him from the rest of the creation, it can only be through the development of his mind that man can attain true spirituality. Based on contemplative spirituality, Maulana Wahiduddin Khan has developed a full-fledged Ideology of Spirituality,derived directly from the Islamic Scriptures.CPS International and its global partners are spreading this ideology and training individuals in spiritual principles through CPS Spirituality Efforts.

Realizing that man is born with an inquisitive nature - since he is endowed with a reasoning faculty - at CPS we believe that he cannot help but question the activities and phenomena that take place around him. He becomes restless unless rational answers to questions pertaining to the Ideology of Life such as the following are addressed: Who am I? , Where did I come from?, What is the purpose of my life?, Why do I have so many desires?, Is life governed by destiny or free will?, Where will I go when I transcend from this world?, Why is there suffering in the world?, etc.

While helping seekers find rational answers to such questions, at CPS, we are helping seekers in their search for truth by explaing the Purpose of Life to seekers to make them understand that the questions are many, however, the answer is only one - a reason-based understanding of the creation plan of God. By finding rational answers to their questions pertaining to the Ideology of Life, seekers are enabled to receive spirituality at the mind level. We believe that the journey of spirituality begins with the urge to search for the truth and on understanding the Ideology of Monotheism, a seeker is able to discover his Creator and on understandign the Creation Plan of God he is able to discover his purpose. Having found answers for his spiritual quest, a seeker's life enters a new phase - that of the building of a positive personality as per the Creator's spiritual principles or a God-oriented personality - with God as the giver and man merely as the receiver. We believe that this, in fact, is the beginning of living a peaceful and spiritual life.

At CPS, we believe that the basis of all sorts of peace and positivity in the world is God-oriented living. Just as the earth is sun's satellite and its existence would have no meaning without it; in the same way, all of man's activities should be God-oriented. The essence of the issue is that just as all other creatures of the world are compelled by their nature to live a God-oriented life; man, of his own free will, should surrender to God. He should build a life, which is based on the concept of God and based on His principles of life. This consciousness is the real ascension of man. In this consciousness lies the secret of all success. Having trained people on the spiritual principles and God-oriented living, we make them understand that once they are able to do this, they can find all sorts of success, be it the achievement of peace or spirituality; the discovery of life; the secret of success in this world and especially the after-life.

To achieve its objectives, the centre is using every peaceful method that will be beneficial and helpful in its objective. The divisions of CPS are at the heart of the CPS Activities. They are providing the pivot around which the various activities of the centre are taking place: one-on-one interactions with Maulana Wahiduddin Khan and the Ambassadors of Peace and Spiritualtiy that aim at bringing a spiritual and intellectual revolution in individuals to convert them into peace-loving people. This will ensure that the negativity and violence in his mind are replaced with a culture of peace and spirituality. The centre arranges weekly and monthly programmes; spiritual training sessions; seminars, conferences, lectures; publishes books, magazines and online material; produces audio-visual material in the form of dvds, vcds and audio-cds; produces audio-visual material in the form of dvds, vcds, audio cds, mp3 formats, etc.; and arranges PR Activities and television & radio broadcasts.

The sphere of action of CPS is global. CPS International and its global partners have made it their life's ambition to be Ambassadors of Peace and Spirituality to the world and propagate the culture of peace and spirituality, so as to eradicate the mentality that violence must be countered with violence, and to highlight the importance of peace and spirituality. They are uniting peace-loving and spiritual people the world over. The CPS Vision is to enter the message of peace and spirituality into each and every home of the world so as to usher in an era of global peace and unity.
