Quran: The Miracle of Prophet Muhammad

Certain non-Muslims once came before the Prophet Muhammad and asked him for proof that he was a true prophet. They pointed out that Moses, one of God's prophets, had come before the world with the miracles of the Staff and the White Hand – clear proof of his being a genuine prophet. Jesus, they added, had made the blind see and had healed lepers, again proving by these miracles that he was a prophet of God. Other prophets, too, had been given the power to perform miracles, and they had not hesitated to display this power as a proof of their prophethood.

Termination of Prophethood

In the early years of the Prophet Muhammad's mission, a man who had come to Makkah on a pilgrimage was asked on his return to his country what was new in Makkah. Muhammad: The Prophet of Islam

Muhammed meaning the praised one was born in 571 in the North Arabian city of Makkah, which was then inhabited mainly by the tribe of Quraysh. In those times, this tribe enjoyed throughout Arabia and the neighbouring countries great prestige on account of the position of their city as a flourishing trade and religious centre.

Prophethood in Islam

Man has been placed on this earth by God in order that his obedience to his Maker may be put to the test. For this purpose he has been given complete freedom to tread the paths of both good and evil. He has his choice. But to follow the path desired for him by God, man is in need of guiding principles. The true source of guidance, according to Islam, is to be found in prophethood. Throughout human history, God in His infinite Mercy, has selected certain individuals to communicate His message to mankind, so that all human beings might be enabled to follow the right path.
