There is a sketch of sea between England and France called the English Channel. At the point where the sea-bed is the lowest, it is 21 miles in width. Now a tunnel has been built under wealth it which makes it possible to travel by rail between England and France.

Swimmers have always shown a keen interest in crossing the English Channel. First of all 21 year old Mathew Webb Swam across it in about 21 hours. Afterwards many people crossed it again and again. There are many kinds of stories about these people.

An American woman, Florence Chadwick, is the first lady to try crossing the English Channel. But she failed in her first attempt. Subsequently, she set a record of crossing it from both sides, from the coast of France in 1950 and from the coast of England in 1951. While talking to reporters, after her first failure, Florence said, "I am not offering excuses, but I think I could have made it if I had been able to see my goal. A goal gives your vision that keeps you pressing on."

This is not related to swimming alone. This is true of all matters in life. Life's journey has its difficulties, but when man has a clear goal before him, he will continue to advance, facing up to all hardships. And once who has no clear goal before him, he will not be able to reach is destination.
