I have been to almost every country. I have gone to Europe and America. Everywhere I see people's centre is their family. This is indeed shirk. The Quran says that believers love God most. If you love someone other than God in the way you should love God, then that becomes shirk, or setting up partners with God. If you travel in the world, in the Arab nations or Europe and America, you will see people's affections are centred on their families. Their energy, wealth and time are all for the family. This is shirk. People spend their wealth in functions, children's marriages and fulfilling their children's desires. Without doubt, this is shirk. The hadith says: اَن تَلِدَ الأمَة ربَّتَها (Sahih Muslim 8) An age will come when women will give birth to their lords. People will place their children in the position of God. This is indeed a strange hadith. It is so true! Women will make their children their sole concern instead of God. People's time, energy and wealth are spent on their sons and daughters.

My wife went to a friend's house in Delhi. She had a son and a daughter. The lady was speaking to her daughter when my wife asked where her son was. The lady replied: My son has no responsibility. He can do whatever he wants. This is the kind of thinking people have. Where is all your money spent? It is spent on making your family happy and on family functions. The way marriages happen these days is prohibited in Islam. Dowries are given in marriage. Receptions and elaborate celebrations are held. All this is prohibited. People earn money to spend it wrongfully on marriages.
