There is a word in English. It is called anachronism. There are some people who don’t remain updated, rather they live in their past. These people live in the past and haven't discovered the present. In the Arab world you'll find certain ideas, for example, there is a poem:

هات صلاح الدين ثانية فينا

وجددي حطيـــن أو شبه حطينا

Bring back to life the battles that Salahuddin had fought! The past history is still fresh in their minds. Salahuddin was born in the 13th century. He had fought to take back Jerusalem. In those days, battles were fought with swords. The Arabs still remind themselves of Salahuddin's courageous feat of regaining Jerusalem in battle. People still have the past history entrenched in their minds. They don’t understand the present. I have said previously that God Almighty showed a great truth through Mahatma Gandhi. That is, peaceful method is far more effective than violent method. But when a person is too engrossed in something, he doesn’t understand. I know certain families in which members have been listening since childhood that their grandfather was a very big man.

This leads to the feeling that their family is very superior. They believe people don’t understand this truth about them. I know many such families where it is believed that their grandfather was a big man. Now many people have gone ahead of such families. They have bigger homes and more cars, but the proud families don’t acknowledge this because they live in the past. The same is the mindset of those who want Salahuddin to return. They are consciously unaware about the present-day history made by Gandhi. We want these people to know the present. The day they come to know about the present, they will be able to leave the past. Our mission has changed the mindset of thousands of people in Pakistan and Kashmir. We were able to bring them out of their past. We met those persons who were violent. We gave them books to read.  The same persons have now entered the field of education. They are running schools and colleges. Many people have benefitted from this. We need to change the mindset which is based on past historical glory. We need to re-engineer their minds. The same persons will become peaceful citizens.
