Religion without Spirit is Only a Set of Rituals

Those who believe in God these days are called practicing Muslims, which means they observe all the rituals of Islam.  Who are those practicing Muslims? They offer Namaz, wear a skull cap or go for the Hajj. All these are rituals. This is a reduced form of God Almighty. If you think of oneness of God only in terms of rituals, then you have reduced God Almighty. A scholar has said that every religion begins as an ideology, but after some generations it is reduced to a culture. Culture is a set of rituals. Religion begins as an ideology, which is full of spirit. But after a few generations, there is decline. In the end what remains is only a set of rituals.

Those who believe in God are generally caught up in rituals. For example, these days Muslims put ringtones of الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ(Quran, 1:2),  'الله اكبر' etc. When you dial their number, you will hear the azaan or Quran recitation. They believe that they have included God in their mobiles. If you go to houses, you will see Allah written in big fonts. There will also be frames hung on walls saying, Alhamdulillah rabbil alameen. Once a person came to me. He had a sticker which had Allahu Akbar written on it. He told me to stick it everywhere in my house. He was running a campaign to place stickers on the walls of every house. Doing this they think is believing in one God.

But this is only following of rituals in the name of God. These days Namaz, fasting and Hajj have also become rituals, in the sense of spiritless practices. If spirit is present, practice will follow. But spirit is lacking, there will be only ritual.
