One of the reasons for hatred among Muslims is their refusal to pray behind one another. How to resolve this in the light of the Quran and Sunnah? This is indeed a problematic issue. There is a chapter on this in books of Hadith: صَلُّوا خَلْفَ كُلِّ بَرٍّ وَفَاجِرٍ (Sunan al-Daraqutni 1768) No question need be asked about whether we can offer prayer behind someone or not. This is a false issue. Prayer is permissible behind every person. صَلُّوا خَلْفَ كُلِّ بَرٍّ وَفَاجِرٍ

Why? Because in prayer, the imam is meant for the sake of organization and not to make your prayer valid. The imam has nothing to do with making your prayer valid. If we have to pray in congregation, we need a person to lead the prayer. The imam's own case is upon God to decide, not you. Your prayer has nothing to do with the imam. You can read many traditions in Abu Dawud about this. صَلُّوا خَلْفَ كُلِّ بَرٍّ وَفَاجِرٍ

This doesn’t mean that the imam can really be evil. The traditions don’t mean that the imam may be evil. This is not the meaning of the hadith. It is if you suppose him to be evil.صَلُّوا خَلْفَ كُلِّ بَرٍّ وَفَاجِرٍ doesn’t mean that he is really evil. Rather even when you assume so, you must offer prayer behind him. People haven't understood Hadith. This is why, they issue wrong fatwas and deviate the ummah. If you read my book Tajdeed-e-Deen,I have written on this matter in detail. The minor differences in prayer are due to diversity. Saying amen softly or aloud in prayer are both acceptable. It doesn’t mean that one way is right and the other wrong. These differences reflect diversity. All differences are on minor, secondary issues. There is no difference over 4 units to be offered for Isha and 3 units for Maghrib. This means that differences in worship are over non-basic matters and don’t pertain to basic or fundamental issues.
