What is the meaning of discovery of God? This discovery is that I am not God. When a person discovers that he is not God, he discovers God's existence. When you discover that you are nothing, you discover that God is everything. First comes la ilaha and then comes illallah. Until person discovers that he is nothing and is completely helpless, he doesn’t develop the basis for discovery of God. Before discovering God, you have to discover your own self. Before discovery of God, you have to discover your own self. You have to realize that you and everything else is nothing. Everything that you like or find beautiful and for which you are ready to sacrfice anything, first you have to realize that it is nothing at all. Only God is important.

God is the Creator, Sustainer and Lord of the universe. Apart from God, everything else is nothing. After discovering that you are nothing, you discover God. God is everything, we are nothing. God is all powerful and we are all powerless. Unless you discover your own position, you don’t form the basis that leads to discovery of God.

Becoming a person in whom God takes pride is not easy. It is indeed ridiculous to think that it's easy to be such a person. Such a person will have a very honoured position: وَلَقَدْ كَرَّمْنَا بَنِي آدَمَ (17:70) It begins in this world and extends to the Hereafter. Such a person would indeed be unique, as even the angels will envy him. Angels will envy that person and God will take pride in him. This happens when a person discovers God, when he surrenders before God, when he discovers the truth in a jungle of darkness, when he travels on God's straight path at the level of sacrifice. After doing all this, that person comes into being in whom God takes pride. The Quran says: فَلَا اقْتَحَمَ الْعَقَبَةَ (90:11) Aqabah means high position. It is used for the height of mountains.  A human being doesn’t ascend the uphill climb. This is the higher ground. Discovery of God is climbing up the higher ground.
