God is so infinite that we can neither measure Him nor weigh and see Him. We cannot even bring in our focus the entire solar system, which is just a part of the universe. We cannot see the solar system in its entirety with our eyes. We observe it in a piecemeal way. Then how can we see God? When God is so great, worship of God cannot be anything ordinary. When God is so magnificent, worshipping Him cannot be a trivial matter. Worship of God is an everlasting process. This is a process that continues throughout our lives. It never comes to an end.
Worship is a long process. It is wrong to believe that faith is mere recitation of the kalimah, or namaz is repetition of some rituals. This is a reduced form of religion, a reduced form of Islam. This is an underestimation of Islam. The pattern followed in the physical world should be followed also in the spiritual world. In the physical world whatever we eat, goes inside the body and turns into our physical being. This is how we remain alive continuously. We don't die. We are constantly being nourished. This is physical nourishment.
In the same way, we need constant spiritual nourishment. Another name for this is worship. Worship is a continuous process. Physical health has to be maintained on a continuous basis. If you possess physical health, that is not the end. If you take a stone, you can chisel it into a brick. When you place the brick somewhere, it remains so for over hundreds of years. Our physical health is different. If we have good health, it won't continue forever. Every day we need food to maintain our physical health. We have a physical personality. To keep it alive and maintain its continuity, we need physical food every day.
The same is true of worship. We also have a spiritual being or a spiritual personality. We need to keep this spiritual personality alive. We receive food for it through worship. Worship supplies us with spiritual food so that our spiritual being can be maintained. This is the case with worship. God said that He created humans to worship Him (51:56). This means that worship can be no small matter.
