18. Support to Helpless Daughters

Suraqa bin Malik narrates that the Prophet of Islam (SAW) said: “Shall I not tell you what the best form of charity is? Your daughter who returns to you (because of widowhood or divorce) and has no one other than you to provide for her..” (Sunan ibn Manas, Hadith No. 3667)

Sometimes, a woman, due to divorce or widowhood, cannot stay with her in-laws and returns to her father’s house. Often, such women become vulnerable in society. However, this vulnerability gives their parents an opportunity to provide moral support. If her parents accept her back, find new opportunities for her, help her regain her dignity, and support her in becoming a respected member of society again, this act will be highly valued by Allah. Through such actions, her parents will earn Allah’s great reward in the Hereafter.
