38. The Scene of Resurrection
The Quran declares: “On that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, his mother, his father, his wife and his sons: on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own—on that Day some faces will be beaming, laughing, and rejoicing, but some faces will be covered with dust and overcast with gloom: those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity.” (80:34-42)
These verses reveal the overwhelming terror and intensity of the Day of Resurrection. On that Day, all worldly attachments and hostilities will disappear. Every man and woman will be wholly occupied with concern for their own fate.
Parents, children, and spouses will no longer be remembered as earthly bonds fade before the majesty of divine judgement. Every person will turn to God alone, seeking His mercy as the only hope of salvation.
The wise man or woman, therefore, is one who keeps this reality alive in their heart during worldly life. Whenever adversity arises, they should see it as a test from God and an opportunity to prove their sincerity and steadfastness. This awareness keeps a believer’s heart balanced—neither proud in success nor despairing in hardship—and ensures that their thoughts and actions remain righteous and measured.
