26. The Home as a Centre of Learning
Concerning the Prophet’s wives, the Quran further instructs: “Bear in mind all that is recited in your homes of the revelations of God and of wisdom. God is all pervading and all aware.” (33:34)
Though this command was directed specifically at the wives of the Prophet, it conveys a universal principle. The wives of the Prophet serve as role models for the Muslim community, their lives exemplifying an ideal pattern for others to follow. They were instructed not only to deeply internalize the teachings and wisdom they heard from the Prophet but also to share that knowledge with others.
This provides a strong insight into the spirit of Islam: every Muslim household should serve as a centre of learning, with the woman of the house as its moral and educational leader. The home is the fundamental unit of society. When each home fulfills this vital role, society as a whole evolves into a more enlightened and progressive community.
