34. The Closest Enemy
The Quran declares: “Believers! [Even] among your wives and your children you have enemies: so beware of them. But if you overlook their offences and forgive and pardon them, then surely, God is most forgiving and merciful.” (64:14)
The issue of close family relationships is extremely sensitive. At times, a person may commit a wrong act simply because of family ties, finding it difficult to resist the wishes or emotional pressure of a loved one.
However, when such influence leads to wrongdoing, it effectively becomes a form of hostility.
Family bonds are meant to be a source of mutual support in goodness, not tools that lead one another into sin or moral compromise. Therefore, the believer must remain vigilant—not by cutting off affection, but by ensuring that love for family never surpasses loyalty to God and His moral law.
